Istanbul and Cappadocia make a varied starting point for a Türkiye holiday. The key planning decision is how much time to leave for each place, including the day you move between them.
01. Count useful days, not just nights
Write down arrival and departure times before filling your itinerary. A late arrival and an early flight home leave less sightseeing time than the number of nights suggests. Keep the first evening light and protect time for airport transfers.
02. Build the route around your priorities
If history, neighbourhoods and waterfront time are your priority, give Istanbul room to breathe. If landscapes and outdoor experiences matter most, allow more unhurried time in Cappadocia. Our suggested seven-day route is a starting point, not a rule.
03. Treat the transfer day as a travel day
A domestic flight also involves hotel checkout, airport journeys, check-in and onward transport. Ask for a proposal that shows each connection clearly and identifies who is arranging the tickets. Avoid tightly packed sightseeing on arrival.
04. Choose a hotel for your actual needs
Compare location, room configuration, access, breakfast and cancellation terms. Atmospheric accommodation may involve steps or uneven access. Ask about the exact room category and practical requirements before selecting a property.
05. Keep optional experiences optional
A balloon experience should be discussed with its operating conditions, eligibility and cancellation policy. Weather-dependent activities should not be the only reason an itinerary works. Keep alternative sightseeing ideas in your plan.
06. Know what the tour name includes
Red and Green tour labels are useful starting points, but operators may offer different stops, inclusions and walking requirements. Request the actual route, guide language, admissions, lunch details and pickup arrangements.
07. Ask for one itemised proposal
Check hotel nights, domestic flights, baggage, transfers, guide services, admissions and optional activities. An attractive headline price is useful only when you know exactly what it covers.
